So, the question is: what entertainment forms do you enjoy most? What would you prefer doing, on a case by case basis? Are you a music, film, game person?

I'm very much a performance person, in the sense that I absolutely adore stuff like theatre and dance (ballet most, but other forms of dance are cool too). I've never had the good fortune to see a opera, but it's something I'd like to do soon.

This is a very expensive and difficult art form to follow though, as theatres/ whatever tend to take a lot of travelling to go see a performance, especially the good ones (local theatre, for the most part, stinks). Cinemas are easier to get to, so that ends up being where I spend the majority of my time and money on entertainment. DVD's too, but I'd much rather go to the cinema than watch a DVD.

Following that, books. If they wern't such a time investment, I'd read them more often. Unfortunately, I rarely have the time I'd like to spend on reading, and as I can't stand reading a book over a number of months, this cuts out overly extended books. During holidays I tend to do more reading.

Games are obviously there, but.... as much as I love games, I can't help but be disappointed with where the industry is at. It just dosen't cater much to my tastes for the most part, I guess *shrugs*

Music, I like, but it tends to be background noise to me. I don't have much of a capacity to sit and focus on just listening to music.

Now... I wanna hear about what *you* all enjoy most.

Books are my friends :) I am a huge reader, the time investment it takes to read doesn't bother me at all. Generally, I'll read for two or three hours before going to bed at night.

Other than that, movies. Rentals mostly, as there is no theatre in my town. I hafta drive for 30 minutes to get to one. So I just rent new DVDs at 2-for-1 prices and watch those.

Games, I would say is my biggest thing, I like all kinds of games, practically all of them.
Books, I've never really had ataste for them but from time to time I'll read a few.
Theatres are a big thing to me, I've always liked going there with my brother, family, and some other people.

Music, mostly. It's something I have to do; perform, listen, compose, it's all there. Of course, provided I do well in both my Music GCSEs and ALVls, my future is Music.

More than most things I'd say it would be music. I'm constantly listening to music, no matter what I'm doing, I'm nearly always listening to something in the background.

Movies aren't far behind, there's usually something atleast half decent on and if there is, more often than not I'll watch it. Nowadays I seem to be buying DVDs less and less, but going to the cinema more and renting more.

Music for sure. I almost never go to movies (maybe a few a year) and I don't read books as much as I probably should (it's a long long time since I've read a novel for pleasure, although I do read non-fiction now and then). However, I listen to and play music quite a bit.

Gaming is at the top of the list. Gaming just suits me better than other forms of entertainment, mostly because it's interactive. I also have a better knowledge of games than other stuff.

Reading is probably next. I like to read when I get the chance, though I don't read often because either I don't have the time, or I just don't have anything to read.

Then there's movies. Oh, what I would give for a movie theater in my town. Good luck on that. The nearest theater was 30 miles away, but it was closed, just as I'm about to get my driver's license. With most of my money going to games, I just don't have much left to buy or even rent movies. So what I end up watching is usually what's on TV.

Music and Films are currently at the top of my list. I always try to get in the 'know' about new films and music. Quite recently games have dropped a bit, one reason for that would be the amount of coursework im given(not that im actually doing it, but just the pressure of it).

Somehow I have a really hard time believing that there are no theatre's in all of Ottawa. I mean, if Edmonton is host to at least five big theatre's, then there has got to be at least one in the capital of Canada.

Myself, I am a diverse, cultured fellow, not taken over by one form of entertainment or another, but spead evenly over many passtimes.

I am a very active, athletic person, and love sports. Whenever I can I will play hockey, football (soccer), football, skateboarding (although you don't really "play" it), tennis, golf...the list goes on. I will play and enjoy almost any sporting activity. Except Cricket, I would imagine.

Video games are another big form of entertainment for me. I got kind of discouraged and uninspired to play any games around the middle of last year, but around the start of this year I got back into it and have since been devoting more and more time to my games. Plus, I recently got an X-Box to go along with my GC and GBA, and so far I'm loving it.

I also love music, and find myself listening to my CD's as much as possible, as well as downloading select tracks from different artists to see if I want to get their albums. I am constantly buying new CD's and so far my collection is fairly large, although I haven't counted or cataloged it as of yet.

I also like movies, although not as much as what I've listed so far. I will watch and really enjoy something I've highly anticipated, or my numerous comedy DVD's, but other than that I feel I could do something more productive for 2 hours than sit and watch something I'm not terribly excited about.

As for reading, well, I try :P But I tend to lose interest rather fast, because of the time commitment, and end up finishing very few books.

- Kris

p.s. Oh, I'm also, as of recently, getting very much into poker. I love the game! It's so much fun to play socially with your friends or seriously for a big pot, but either way it is a great game :D

Poker! I completely forgot about poker, it's been a month or two since I played but I absoloutely love the game. Me, my dad and my brother even watch it from time to time on tv, one of the discovery channels show it, Late Night Poker. It's pretty good to watch, much better to play it though, no money involved of course.

And if we're talking passtimes in general, sports would most definately be number one.

I love theatre, particularly some of the more local outfits around here which are pretty good. I devote a good bit of time to doing tech work for them.

Books are up there as well, on par with theatre. Mostly fantasy, but I also read a good bit of biography, with the occasional philsophy/religion read to spice things up.

Then, there's music. It's lower than the other two, but above everything else. I mainly listen to jazz, bluegrass, and classical. A lot of newer music doesn't appeal to me, but there is the occasional group that catches my ear.

Finally, there's my games. It's pretty much self-explanitory, I think.

As long as you are watching the Late Night Poker on the Discovery Channel and not the one on Men and Motors. ;)

Gaming and Music are my two main things, I'm always listening to music so maybe that the most, I also enjoy art quite a lot, designing, I suppose...hmm I use to code a lot..I don't do it much anymore....so probably Music and Gaming for now.

I don't live right in Ottawa, I like 30 mins east in Rockland :P The amalgamated City of Ottawa has many smaller theatres and three huge ones. There is a smaller one in Orleans, which is the closest to my house, with 5 theatres, and one about 10 minutes away from that with 12 where I usually go.

But no, there are not actually any theatres where I actually live. Until I move to Ottawa in August.

Film would be at the top of my list. Recently, I haven't traveled to the cinema very often though (last movie I saw was Day After Tommarow, and before that I can't recall), due to lack of interest. I'm trying to catch a lot of older films by renting and buying them. And by older I mean before the 90's.

Playing sports is also right there. Basketball and Football are my favorite sports to play that involve physical activity. But, overall the best sport is poker. Not that five card draw poo, but Texas Hold 'em. It's only fun with lots of money though. And one of the best things about it, is it's fairly easy to go pro with it.

And I guess to round off the top three, writing would be next. I've gotten so much better at it over the last year that I amaze myself. Outside of schoolwork, I mostly *try* to write screenplays, but it's fricking hard.

Games and reading closely follow.

I'm not too big on film...I watch movies ocassionally, but it's rarely 'artsy' films or anything.

I don't do sports. I keep fairly fit(lucky me, I only have to work out like...once every three weeks to stay toned), but competitive sports aren't really my thing, people get *so* worked up over them and I hate it. I used to do fencing but I stopped for reasons which are a long story.

I do read sometimes, I have a big list I need to read right now, but I haven't got around to it yet. Writing is something I do on the rare happening of a story idea, although the only thing I've finished to date is a short story, and that was probably because I used it for class.

edit: Silly me, forgot music! That's about the only one of these that I can say I'm "into". I can't play music, or heck, even read it(although my eventual goal is to be able to play the ocarina, bass guitar, and drums...), but I love listening to it.

Music has helped me a great deal through the hard times, so that's definitely what I enjoy most. It's a great form of entertainment, and it can also be very therapeutic. We will always have music.

Movies would probably be the top for me. Only have a drive-in theatre here, so I do go to that every once and a while, although the movie choices aren't always that great. I do rent movies quite often though. The video store has a 5 movies, 5 days 5 dollars deal that I often take advantage of. Plus they have enough movies to put any big-chain video store to shame.

Games and music would probably be tied for second. I don't play games as often as I'd like to, but that had to do with money for a while, and now I just don't have as much time to. And music I'll generally listen to as much as I can. I sort of play guitar, even though I'm more or less still learning and haven't touched my guitar in probably 3 months.

Most of my free time is spent playing videogames. That's just my sort of thing. Another thing I like to do is listening to FNX and WCYY. It's rock alternative at its best. Then, it's reading, and with reading I mean the reading that NightLight does. At night for 2 to 3 hours before I call the Sandman; it's really weird how I like reading so much but I just can't stop!

Because Kris brought up sport...

I'm big on both tennis and weights. When I'm not freezing my arse off because it's winter, I'll do anywhere in the vicinity of 1-2 hours of either a day.

Again, on the subject of sports, if you don't know that I'm a martial arts nut by now, then you either weren't on the old forums or can't read (not that these two are mutually exclusive).

But recently I've taken to mountain biking a lot, I mean, I can't very well ski in the middle of summer, so why not?
