About This Site
If you've arrived at this page, we'll assume you're probably looking for an explanation. Who are we and why do we do what we do? So, in hope of satisfying some of your burning questions, we've put together a small FAQ. We hope it's helpful.
What is this site all about?
Short answer: it's all about games. In fact, if you want a longer answer, it's about anything and everything video game-related.
Most of us here have been writing for gaming websites for a long, long time. In fact, Run! Jump! Shoot!'s existence can be traced all the way back to the founding of a little site called GBA Central back in August 2000, when the internet was still in its relative infancy and was a strange and terrifying place.
Over the years, we've unfortunately become less and less enamoured with straight-up gaming journalism. Simply put, trying to post up every tiny piece of news the moment it's announced, and trying to review every game that's released within a week of it coming out, gets tedious after a while. Moreover, without a budget to speak of (all of our sites have been of the "no ads is better" persuasion), it's impossible to compete with the big boys and impossible to garner any widespread attention for yourself. So we got bored.
Long story short; Run! Jump! Shoot! is our play-thing. We're not interested in trying to out-journalise professional journalists, just in writing about the games we love... or love to hate.
So why did you call it Run! Jump! Shoot!?
We actually wanted to call our site IGN but we ran into some legal difficulties. No, really.
There's not a lot of news on your site!
That's not a question. Anyway, though, the reason we don't absolutely flood the front page with news each day is that, unfortunately (and you know it's true), most gaming news is BORING. Does anyone really care if EA's operating profits have increased 0.5% since last Wednesday? I know I don't.
We don't shun news coverage completely, though, so here's a short summary of what you're likely to find on Run! Jump! Shoot!'s front page and what you hopefully won't.
You will find:
- The big stories. Yes, the exciting stuff, because this is what people really want to hear about, isn't it?
- Stories aimed at a slightly more niche audience, but which we think some of our readers may find interesting. Our writing crew are a bunch of misfits, really, and we all have our own passions about various things.
- Quirky or funny stories, because games are supposed to fun and we're always up for a laugh. Who isn't?
You won't find:
- Boring press releases cut and pasted from publishers' sites or Reuters or something. Yeuch.
- The latest screenshots of that new licensed game everyone knows is going to be awful and which nobody cares about. You know the one.
- Companies' annual financial reports because, well, who cares, honestly?
In fact, there's not a lot of anything on your site!
That's because we're just getting started. We have quite a small staff count at the moment so it's going to take a while to build up a decent library of content. Don't fret, though, because we'll get there. There's no need to be worried!
Also, that wasn't a question, either.
Can I write for you?
Provided you can actually write and your personality isn't too vile and repugnant, yes, you probably can. In fact, even if you don't have the time to devote to becoming a regular contributor and just want to write every once in a while, that's fine.
Send your articles in to jskiexl AT runjumpshoot DOT com (formatted like a real e-mail address, of course, and not in a way intended to confuse spam bots) and PLEASE check your spelling and grammar first. Nobody's perfect - me especially - but it's nice when things are readable.
